The 2016 Legacy Series is already halfway over. Can you believe it? While some players have already locked in their spot, many others are vying for a spot in the exclusive Legacy Series Masters!
We are two City Championships and a bunch of Legacy Series Trials deep into the Legacy Series, with two more Trials and another Championship over the next two weeks! A lot could change in these weeks, but let’s take a look anyway! We’ll break it down by the different methods of qualification. The first method of qualification is the slot-based qualification, where you lock these in by winning a particular event.
Slot-Based Qualifications
1st Place in each of the four City Championships
- Gilbert City Championships: Leon Kornacki
- Avondale City Championships: Bryan Rockenbach
- Tucson City Championships: TBD – May 14th, 2016 at Amazing Discoveries
- Tempe City Championships: TBD – July 30th, 2016 at Tempe Comics
1st Place of the AZMagicPlayers.com 2015 Legacy Series Masters: Kyle Henriksen
1st Place of the AZMagicPlayers.com 2014 Legacy Series Championship: Tony Murata
The next slots that are open are the ones that are up for grabs all year – the Points-based Qualifications! You earn points at each City Championship or Legacy Series Trial based on your finish. Each good finish pits you closer into the available qualifications through this method.

There’s quite a glut at the 10 point slot, but that’s understandable, given that a single 5th-8th place finish at a City Championship nets you 10 points. It’s clear at this point that just one Top 8 can’t get you a berth at Legacy Series Masters, but one more good showing at a Trial or a City Championship can push you into the Top 8. The difference between the squeaking into Masters and missing out completely is just 1 point, so each point matters!
