This past Sunday, Goblins managed to win the Legacy Classic at StarCityGames.com: Atlanta.
A long, long time ago, Goblins was so dominate in Legacy (also known as Type 1.5 at the time) that any new deck had to have a solid answer to “How does your deck deal with a turn one Goblin Lackey?”
Nowadays, that question has been forgotten. But John-Peter Reiland (Redditor /u/goblinpiledriver) asked this question every round this weekend. Evidently, no one was able to answer him.
Although an old deck, Reiland spices it up with some new tech from not only the newly released Oath of the Gatewatch, but even the not-so-popular Grenzo, Dungeon Warden from the Conspiracy set.
Some highlights from his tournament report:
Favorite play: Grenzo for X=4. A 6/6 goblin crashing in is nothing to scoff at!
Game 2 saw a chalice for 1, a Grenzo to spite a terminus, and an Earwig squad to rip out Jace, Staticaster, and Monastery Mentor which forced him to work with very poor threats in a fair match.
